New London Emissions requirements

3rd Jan 2019

On April 8 2019 new emission standards will be implemented for the central London. This will initially simply cover the congestion charge zone, but the zone will be extended to anywhere within the North/South Circular in October 2021. Although For larger vehicles October 2020 will see Euro VI applied to the whole of greater London.  Charges will apply 24/7.

Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds.

Euro 4 for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles

Euro 6 for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles

Euro VI for lorries, buses and coaches and other specialist heavy vehicles

In general Diesel vans and Lorries sold after September 2016 will be compliant, although this obviously leaves a huge number of vehicles effected.

If not complaint with the correct standard a daily charge of £100 is levied for larger vehicles, in addition to the current T-Charge and emission charges are separate from the congestion charge system. A good summary is posted here on the Tfl website. http://content.tfl.gov.uk/lez-ulez-comparison-table.pdf

For Non-Road Mobile Machinery (Excavators, Dumpers, Access Platforms etc), currently euro IIIA is a requirement for greater London, with Euro IIIb for central London and Canary Wharf. On 1st September 2020 this will change to Euro IIIB for greater London , and Euro IV for Central London and Canary Wharf.
